I am back to Dubrovnik, one of my favourite places, to perform the role of Medoro in Handel’s opera Orlando, in Dubrovnik Festival. Orlando will be staged staged for the first time in Croatia! I am very excited about it.
There is a statue of Orlando at the main street of the beautiful ancient part of the town. I am sure that the real knight Orlando would be very happy to know that wonderful Owen will become him for a short while.
I hope that the weather will be nice and mosquitoes too tired during the next three days of performances. The location that the stage director Janos Szikora has chosen for this production is magical: the island of Lokrum, with a beautiful garden and spectacular sunsets. It has been a real privilege to work with some of the finest musicians from UK and Croatia, and one of the most famous Hungarian directors
I love this opera because every character is so human and we can discover ourselves in them. While Orlando has to keep proving that he is the strongest and can endure everything, my Medoro allows himself to be gentle and, although is Orlando’s rival he is sincerely concerned about him. …
